Disclosure Training at Sussex and Brighton
This ‘Partner Training Evaluation Report’ focuses on the Sussex University training, which has also been piloted by our Associate Partner Brighton University. Our training included: descriptions of sexual violence and statistics about its incidence on campuses in the UK; discussion of the broader context within which sexual violence occurs; the effects of sexual violence on survivors, and detailed information about how to support students disclosing such incidents and where additional expert help could be accessed. Our overall findings are that the training was well received and that staff felt more confident at the prospect of dealing with disclosures and knew where to direct students to access expert support. Furthermore, on the basis of the project, a number of recommendations are being made to the Vice Chancellor such as encouraging the adoption of a more a coordinated approach to services for staff and students and ensuring that there is adequate support for those providing support to students.
